The teaching staff have said Moray College wages are the fourth worst in the sector and highlighted other UHI college lecturers are paid roughly £3000 more for teaching exactly the same courses to the same students.
Teaching staff from Elgin are sympathetic to students for the negative impact the strike will have on them but they feel this action is the only option left to achieve a resolution.
Teaching staff at Moray college feel it's a post code lottery when it comes to pay saying that other college's can be doing the same job but get paid more but with different terms and conditions.
In 1993 Colleges were taken out of local government control and left in the hands of individual colleges leaving them to decide their own terms and conditions , leading to large differences between collages regarding working conditions and wages.
