Elgin's former night club could have a new lease of life.

The former Jailhouse Night club located at the end of Newmarket close in Elgin High Street was destroyed by fire 18 years ago.

During the 1990's, the Jailhouse Nightclub was popular for its cage which revellers would dance in and at midnight a dummy would be placed in the clubs electric chair and fried.

The former nightclub was bought by William McBey seven years ago and is currently in discussions with Moray council over the possibility of turning the building into student accommodation although no formal application has been submitted at this time.

Gill Neill, Manager of Elgin Bid, said:

" the organisation has been assisting Mr McBey with his plans by liaising with the Moray Council and organising a meeting with representatives from the relevant departments."

She also added:

For a development of this complexity it is good to get everyone sitting together round a table at the same time so that issues can be identified and support offered.

“The former Jailhouse is a prominent building in the city and we are happy to offer any help we can to support the development.”
