Open door invitation to Moray property owners.

The owners of buildings in Moray which are not generally accessible to the public are being invited to take part in a Doors Open Day later this year.

The organisers of the event are hoping to involve buildings which are of historical, architectural or cultural interest.

Doors Open Day was launched in Glasgow in 1990 and proved such a success that the Scottish Civic Trust decided to promote it more widely.

Since then the event has developed into a Scotland-wide celebration of the built environment.

This year’s event in Moray will be held on September 17 and it is proposed to produce a promotional leaflet featuring the buildings involved.

Moray Council heritage and tourism officer Liz Trevethick and Kirsty Conti, the council’s Elgin conservation area regeneration scheme officer, are acting as area co-ordinators for the event.

“This is such a good opportunity to explore some of the great buildings we have on our doorstep which we don’t normally have access to,” said Liz.

“Doors Open Day can be a good way for owners to reach out to the local community, publicise a project or even increase membership of their organisation.

“Entry must be free on the day but there is also the opportunity to accept donations.”

Buildings which are normally open to the public – but which wish to put on a special event to coincide with Doors Open Day – can also take part.
