Buckie Flat was deliberately set on fire, according to police.
Police Scotland have said a Fire at a ground-floor flat on Low Street in Buckie was being treated as wilful fire-raising.
The fire was reported to Emergency services early Saturday morning.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said that 13 firefighters and two fire engines - from Cullen and Buckie - were sent to tackle the flames.
She said: "We were called at 2.02am and the stop message came in at 2.42am.
"There were two appliances at the scene.
"Firefighters entered the flat using breathing and a thermal camera and extinguished the fire using a hose reel.
"The fire was located in a ground floor residential flat. There was one male casualty who was taken to hospital.
Sergeant Stephen Carmichael said:
"Following a joint investigation involving Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, we are treating this as a suspicious incident.
"I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time in question and saw anything to contact police as a matter of urgency.
