FIRST 2016 AIR CADET CAMPS AT RAF LOSSIEMOUTH.

Over 50 Air Cadets from the south of England have recently visited RAF Lossiemouth for their Easter Air Cadet Camps. The week long visits by members of the Air Training Corps give young people between the ages of 13 to 20 the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the working environment and life of a Royal Air Force Station.

Over three weeks Air Cadets from the London & South East, and South West regions held week long camps at RAF Lossiemouth.

Cadets attending the camps at RAF Lossiemouth were able to gain a greater understanding of the front line work of a Typhoon Main Operating Base. As well as visiting several sections that support the flying squadrons on the Moray base the Cadets carried out Cadet–specific military training and team building exercises. They also visited nearby Fort George Barracks, home of 3 Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, and enjoyed some free time at the beaches and forests around RAF Lossiemouth.

Flight Lieutenant Tarandeep Bhachoo was the detachment commander of

the youngsters from the London & South East Wing, he said:

“26 young people from around the Islington area travelled to RAF Lossiemouth. We had an excellent week at RAF Lossiemouth, it was thoroughly enjoyed by the Cadets and staff. The support from the base staff made the visit the success it was.”

Flight Lieutenant Robin Fowler leads the Air Cadet Liaison Team at RAF Lossiemouth, he said:

“Camps at front line stations such as RAF Lossiemouth are an integral part of the Air Cadets’ education about the modern Royal Air Force. The camps do rely on Station personnel taking time out of their busy days to host visits and experiences that will really benefit the Cadets. Whilst continuing to deliver QRA and support overseas operational commitments, RAF Lossiemouth has developed a Cadet Camp programme that provides some wonderful opportunities for young people from across the UK to experience the RAF.”
