'Prevent' anti-radicalisation strategy being rolled out by councils.

Councils in the north east of Scotland and Northern Isles have begun rolling out the UK government's anti-radicalisation strategy 'Prevent'.

Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland councils will be training staff - such as teachers and social workers - to spot signs that children or the public may be being radicalised.

It is in a bid to prevent them committing or supporting terrorism.

Prevent can also be used in Scotland to tackle sectarianism.

Since 2012, 4,000 people in England have been referred to the Prevent strategy.

The UK government has said it is aimed at all forms of extremism, but Prevent has attracted criticism for appearing to focus on Muslim communities.
