Elgin allotments move.
Moray councillors today agreed to earmark an area of ground in Elgin for allotments.
The council will now submit a planning application for the allotments to be created on a site adjoining the playing fields at Pinefield.
It is envisaged that the Elgin Allotment Association would then develop and operate the site under a lease arrangement.
Moray Council’s policy and resources committee was told that given the current financial situation the council was not in a position to fund the development of the site but would undertake the work to obtain planning permission.
“The Elgin Allotments Association would be expected to take a lease from the council to develop, operate and manage the allotments,” said a report.
“Furthermore, in order to develop the site the association would require to seek funding from external sources.”
The cost of developing the site for allotments has been estimated at £120,000.
