80 Jobs under threat at Baxter's in Focharbers.

Up to as many as 80 employees at Baxter's in Fochabers are facing the prospect of losing their jobs.

The famous food company would like to become more efficient among its global rivals.

And to achieve this, the company are looking at the future of 80 out of 700 jobs at the Fochabers factory.

We spoke to one member of the Baxter's staff on Friday night who didn't wish to give her name but said:

"My husband was laid off from working off shore a year ago and now we could face more hardship if I get laid off.

We don't get paid big wages and for a company that makes so much money in profit to be thinking of cutting 80 jobs is nothing short of disgusting."

Baxter's have now started a consultation process which could lead to redundancy for up to 80 members of staff.

Audrey Baxter, Executive Chairwoman and Group CEO of Baxters, said:

“We must respond to ongoing external challenges such as difficult trading conditions, squeeze on margins, food deflation, aggressive promotional activity and overall category decline reflecting change in consumer tastes.

“In order to do this, we will invest and improve the skills of our people and apply good manufacturing and commercial practices.”
