New Mental Wellbeing Hub In Moray Moves Forward.

Local people are being urged to use their experience of mental health to help create a new wellbeing hub in Moray.

The call comes in advance of a special event in Elgin later this week which is aimed at creating a community led ‘wellbeing hub'.

The new hub will provide a community and online space where people can be inspired to live a more mentally healthy life.

Backed by NHS Grampian, the Scottish Government and the Moray Council, two sessions will take place at the Harvest Centre on Wednesday between 3pm and 4:30 pm and 7 pm and 8:30 pm.

Led by Heidi Tweedie, a Moray Community Champion for Recovery and Wellbeing, the project is being supported with funding from Alliance Health and Social Care and See Me.

Heidi said: “We want to create a place that will help shape people’s experience of mental wellbeing in Moray for years to come which is why it’s vital that people get involved and have their say.

“Mental health difficulties are one of the biggest, if not the biggest, health challenges we face, with 1 in 4 people experiencing them at some point in their life. But wellbeing is about much more than focusing on mental health problems.

“We all have challenges with our mental health, just like we have physical health challenges – people will choose to go the gym to look after their bodies, and it’s high time we could all access more equivalent services for our minds.

“There is a wealth of knowledge and experience in Moray that could be used to help create change and allow people live their lives to the full which is what the project is all about.

“We want to know what works for people, as well as their family and their friends, and, just as importantly, what doesn’t.

“The project is based on using personal experiences to support and inspire others to create change in Moray and we have lots of opportunities for people who, like me, are keen to use those experiences to help make things better for others.”

The event follows January’s “Design A Hub” event, which attracted over 50 attendees. To find out more about the Moray Wellbeing Hub Project contact Heidi on 07989331651 or find the project on Facebook: /moraywellbeinghub and online www.moraywellbeinghub.org.uk
