LOCHHEAD TO MEET COUNCIL CHIEF EXECUTIVE ABOUT LOSSIE HIGH REPLACEMENT.

Moray’s MSP, Richard Lochhead, is to meet with the Chief Executive of the Moray Council over concerns that the new Lossiemouth High will not include a replacement swimming pool.

Mr Lochhead has spoken to many people in the community and it is clear that people very much welcome the SNP Government’s commitment to replace the existing secondary school and his constituents hope that the new building will include the same sport and leisure facilities that they currently have access to.

Recent reports have indicated that Council officers will recommend to Moray Councillors not to support the replacement of the swimming pool, which is one of the best used in Moray.

Mr Lochhead is due to meet with the Council’s Chief Executive, Roddy Burns on Tuesday ahead of the full council meeting, and the concerns around the new Lossie High School will be top of the agenda.

Commenting, Richard Lochhead MSP said:

“Having spoken to many people in Lossiemouth I know that parents, as well as the rest of the community, are absolutely delighted that the Scottish Government has committed to a replacing the existing high school, which is in poor condition.

“Naturally, people in Lossie would like to see the new school include the same facilities that the whole community currently enjoy and benefit from. People are understandably concerned to hear that council officers are recommending that local councillors say no to replacing the swimming pool and leisure facilities.

“Given that Lossiemouth swimming pool is one of the most well used leisure facilities in Moray it would be a real shame for a replacement not to be included in the plans and I will be making these points to the Council’s Chief Executive when we meet on Tuesday.”
